Tails of Lindy’s Comet

Celebrating Australia Day 2019

What a January! I finally was able to sit Lindy down to type this newsletter.

I lay on Lindy’s feet under the desk to make sure she typed this Tail up.

Australia Day Ambassador in Young

I, along with Polly, took Lindy to Young for Australia Day. My role as an Ambassador Dog was to accompany Lindy to the dinner the evening before with the council officials and their partners and then to the Big Breakfast at the Carrington Park on Australia Day.

Hilltops Council in Young welcomed eight new people who took up their citizenship that morning. Lindy was able to relate the language difficulty that she experienced when she first arrive in Australia back in 1974. Phrases such as ‘short leg’, ‘silly mid on’, blue for redhead’ etc were real challenges for her to understand.

The theme for this Australia Day was ‘Everyone, Every story’. I am glad that she told my story during her Australia Day address. After the formal part of the event, Lindy took my uniform (harness) off, so I was able to get pats from people in the Park.

It was great to see some of Lindy’s family making the 2 hour trip from Canberra early that morning to support Lindy, and I was thrilled to see Duffy, the Carter family dog,  there also.

On the way home. we stopped at a coffee shop called “Café on Queen Street” in Binalong. They made great iced coffee and iced chocolate. We were very well looked after. The owner even pulled out a mat for me to walk on to get to the car, as the 40+ C temperature made it far too hot for my paws. I was glad that I didn’t have to put my booties on.

Road and Track Nationals

Kerry and Lindy competed in the Track Nationals in December and then backed up for the Road Nationals in Ballarat during January. It was fantastic that the Para events were fully integrated into the Open Road Nationals, and that the Para competitors competed on the same Road and Time Trial venues as the Open riders.

I saw the weather forecast and elected to stay in Canberra for those competitions. After all, bike mechanic was not part of my training during Guide Dog School.

Sydney Coastrek 2019

I was told that Lindy did the Sydney Coastrek in March 2015. That was before I took up my job with Lindy. This year Lindy is going to do the 30km from Rushcutters Bay to Manly on Friday 15th March. She will be joined by her family Stephen, Jamie and Georgia. That is why we have name the team, ‘We are family’.

All money raised from The Sydney Coastrek goes to the  Fred Hollows Foundation. ‘It is an international development organisation working towards eliminating avoidable blindness and improving Indigenous Australian health’

Your support in restoring sight for those who are needlessly blind is much appreciated. Lindy and her ‘We are Family’ team are doing their little bit to help.

A donation of as little as $25 can help restore sight and give the gift of sight.

We are only here for a short time.

Although our pawprint is small, we can certainly make an impact no matter how little it is. Let’s do what we can to make a difference to someone’s life.
