3rd of December is the International Day of People with Disability. We celebrated well into the night when Instructor Claire gave me the news that I have been matched with Guide Dog Flash. He is 1 year and 9 months old.

Here is Flash’s own description:

“I am a medium black male with a small white spot on my chest.
I’m pretty adaptable in all environments and I love to work! I am happy to spend time with the family, other dogs, or by myself. I might grab the occasional stick to chew if I see a good one, and I’m friendly and fun with other dogs.”

Flash will come and live with us on the 13th January and then we will start our at-home training with instructor Claire to learn all the travel routes around home at the beginning of February.

So for three weeks, Flash will be just a dog and go for walks with Polly and me.

If Polly is not around, we will have to take our walks with other friends, so that he won’t have to figure out where to go and how to get home. Once he has learnt the routes, we can then get around together without reliance on sighted help.

In the meantime, I will relax on a Pacific cruise until the 11th January with friends.

Wishing you all a wonderful Christmas and a Healthy and Happy New Year.

Cheers
